On the 5th of February 2024, the highly anticipated 2024/2025 Budget Speech by the Minister of Finance, Honourable Peggy O. Serame, captivated audiences nationwide as it took centre stage at the Parliament Chamber. Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) played a pivotal role as a key partner to the Government, ensuring that this significant event reached every corner of Botswana by leveraging its cutting-edge technology and widespread network coverage.
BoFiNet's involvement in this monumental occasion extends beyond mere participation. With a commitment to ensuring flawless technical operations, BoFiNet provided technical services at all 57 locations, guaranteeing robust Wi-Fi connectivity and high-quality LED screens sourced from local suppliers. The significance of this partnership was emphasised by the BoFiNet acting CEO Mr. Keabetswe Segole, who said, "This event highlights BoFiNet's unwavering dedication to delivering reliable connectivity nationwide." We are dismantling barriers and promoting digital inclusivity through programs like the SmartBots Village Connectivity Initiative, making it possible for every Motswana to easily access services and information."
The SmartBots Village Connectivity initiative, a Government initiative in which BoFiNet was engaged as a contractor and operator was launched by His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, the president of Botswana. This initiative is evidence of the country's dedication to digital transformation. With the goal of providing free and easily available internet connectivity to businesses and individuals alike, this massive project is tasked with connecting 1,138 public facilities in 144 towns throughout all districts. By bridging the digital divide, these Wi-Fi hotspots have become instrumental in broadcasting national events such as the Mindset Change Campaign Launch and the State of the Nation Address (SONA), reaffirming BoFiNet's pivotal role in shaping Botswana's digital landscape.
